We are totally stoked to have Kate from Tootsa MacGinty with us to have a chat about her
business and her life.
Who are you and what do you do?
Kate Pietrasik - Founder / Creative director of Tootsa MacGinty
(unisex childrens wear for 0 to 8 year olds)
What makes you laugh?
Wit and intelligence and a clever sense of humour.
I listened to a lot of Adam and Joe, Russell Brand and "League of Gentlemen" radio shows / podcasts
when I lived overseas!
Where do you get your daily inspiration?
Gosh! everything and anything - travelling, music, film, people watching, The V&A,
The Design Museum, Shopping (stores like Liberty and Selfridges) the internet (Pinterest!),
the old photos of my brother and I as kids…..
Where's your favourite place in the whole wide world?
Bobbing about on a surfboard in the water on a warm summers day surrounded by friends and family.
As a child, did you like dressing up?
We certainly had a dressing up box. I remember an itchy curly wig and some big old polyester
dresses and a pair of white gloves. My brother and I were quite into our amateur dramatics and
would dress up and put on plays. That was our thing!
Do you go out much without the kids? If so where? (we're not stalking you, honest)
Yes, I am a single parent and if I didn't go out by myself I wouldn't get to see anyone grown-up!
When I'm not working at my office I might go shopping; mainly to look and browse but not to spend.
I'll visit a museum (the V&A in particular has some inspirational exhibitions - see above),
I'll put something happy and loud on my ipod and go for a run….but mostly I'll book a baby-sitter
in the evening go out to eat, drink and catch up with good friends.
What's your favourite film?
I can't pick one! Recently I've enjoyed "The place beyond the pines" and "The kids are alright"
and ones I can remember enjoying in the past are "The Science of Sleep" and "Dan in real life"
What food is evocative of your childhood?
Hot buttered toast on a chilly evening when my daughter and I arrive home from school.
This was my after-school ritual too.
Do you have a special talent ?
Other than remaining somewhat sane whilst juggling single-parenthood and a fast growing business?!
I speak French, play the piano and I'm alright on a surfboard but if I really wanted to impress you -
I do a mean impression of a character from the "Planet of the Apes"!
Helping to galvanise a trend for less dangerous gender stereo-typing in the childrens market!
Thank you so much for taking the time to do our very serious Q&A Kate.
We thoroughly enjoyed chatting to you.
And anyone who likes Adam Buxton is alright in our books ;o)
